About Us

The purpose of the Putnam County Libraries Association (PCLA) is to encourage cooperation among all libraries serving the public in Putnam County, and to promote public interest in and support for appropriate library service in Putnam County.

PCLA members are made up of Library Directors, Library Trustees, and three Representatives to the Mid-Hudson Library System’s Board. All members are encouraged to attend the two meetings a year, which are also open to the public.

All PCLA members are responsible for securing appropriate Putnam County funding for our eight libraries. Over the years, county funding has provided for a succession of important library resources: Internet support, Homework Help, databases such as Gale and Creative Bug, Literacy Volunteers, downloadable audiobooks and ebooks – This is in addition to the general county contribution, which helps our libraries to share our lending collections of books, DVDs and more.

PCLA members work together to generate cooperative marketing and service strategies, plan for new developments in libraries, and explore ways to utilize social networking to better serve our county residents.
